The process of moving after an extended period of time is always a melancholy one. I say ‘melancholy’ because everything you own has some form of memory tied to it; it reminds you of both the good times and the bad times. The house I am living in is being prepared to be sold within the next few months, so I have been reviewing many of the things that I can stand to part with.

The majority of my belongings consist of what I like to consider the “Gamer’s Collection” - video games, board games, books of various sorts, and assorted computer hardware in one form or another. I have thought about what I should and should not take with me and what stands to be sold off to lighten the load when I am preparing to move.

Never in my life have I sold a book that I have read back to a store of any kind, however, I intend to do so to lighten the load of moving. When you have lived in a place for three years, the amount of things you acquire increases greatly. My idea is to be able to fit all my belongings into my car so that I have as little as possible to carry with me wherever I may go (and thus, save money on transportation and renting a U-Haul). With the exception of clothes, selling off my books is one of the first steps towards ‘liquidating’ myself.

The thing about many of these books is that I have acquired them from publishers which no longer exist, or the books are out of print; I had thought to purchase them at a later time when I have a more permanent residency, and as such, I will be documenting which books I will be selling off and storing that list somewhere on the internet so that, in the future, should I come across those books again and the weather is fair, they will have come back to me. The internet is a wonderful place to find such books which are no longer syndicated; I will have to depend on it to track things down in the future.
